BOCI and its predecessor company have been providing M&A services since 1993 and have completed M&A transactions with an aggregate volume exceeding HK$ 560 billion. Capitalizing on its international reach, BOCI has been active in cross-border M&A activity and provides M&A advice to corporate clients in Hong Kong, China and internationally.

BOCI is active in advising international and PRC corporations in buy-side acquisitions. In 2000, BOCI acted as the financial advisor for Pacific Century Cyber Works in its acquisition of Cable & Wireless HKT Limited. The transaction was the largest telecoms M&A in Asia (ex- Japan) and received recognition as "The Best M&A Deal of the Year" from FinanceAsia.

In 2006, BOCI advised Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation in its RMB 21.4 billion acquisition of the automotive and related production assets from Shanghai Automobile Group Co., the largest landmark restructuring transaction in the Chinese automotive industry to date.

In the same year, BOCI acted as financial advisor to various Chinese enterprises in executing successful overseas acquisition strategies; examples include acting as advisor to Bank of China in its USD 965 million acquisition of Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise Pte Ltd, and to Hunan Nonferrous in its USD 80 million strategic investment in Compass Resources in Australia.
